Well normally at this point in the showing year we have had several weeks of sleepless nights worrying about coats, way of going, checking everything is packed etc etc. We have definitely not missed all of that stress! So had 2020 been a normal year we would be half way through the HOYS week and ready for the next 2 days of almost working 24 hours, lists upon lists and endless walking. However with HOYS being cancelled due to the pandemic- we now find ourselves with none of those things. We will miss the cammaradiere of all of us, staff and close friends pulling together to make the show as successful as possible. We will miss the atmosphere and some of the emotions however we can honestly say we won’t miss the pressure or the lack of sleep. So to mark the year we didn’t have a Horse of the Year Show we decided to do something that we would not have been able to do normally this week and are heading to Hawkstone Hall for a night away. Instead of walking up and down the horse walk, we are having a round of golf and this evening for the less than sociable hours of working in we are going to be having a civilised dinner and toast everyone who we would normally be spending time with (Caitlin, Dunk, Gill, Ian, Elle, Laura, Fay, Fran, Kez, Abbie) and then we are going to set our alarm for 2am when we would normally be getting up to plait and start the yard and when it goes off – we are going to go back to sleep!! Hope that anyone else who has chosen to mark the non-HOYS remembers what they were doing for HOYS 2020 in years to come. Lastly thank you to Gill and Ian who always send us a HOYS card- this years was a bit different but as hugely appreciated as always.
