roll of honour

As a team we consistently qualify around 20 horses and ponies for the Royal International and Horse of the Year Show each year. 2019 was no different, we qualified 19 for the HOYS and 21 for the RIHS. Alongside the Lead Rein Show Pony title, we also took the 13 hand Show Hunter Pony of the Year at HOYS. With 10 new combinations never having been in the ring at HOYS together – we were delighted with the host of placings the team achieved.

Some of our most important triumphs are simply ensuring a new combination qualifies and is able to ride in the ring at RIHS & HOYS for the first time. We have showcased individual successes in our ‘Hall of Fame’ page but just wanted to select a few of the most memorable highlights from over the years……

Julie has been honoured to win several inaugural titles. However 2 of note are when in 1992 she was the first Champion of the new Mini Show Pony section at Horse of the Years Show with Roseisle Bridesmaid. She followed this in 1999 when the Mini Mountain & Moorland section was introduced and was Champion with Brierdene Llewelyn.

Julie is probably most renowned for her successes in the ‘mini’ classes with results too numerous to name but highlights include ….

Champion at Horse of the Year Show with Roseisle Bridesmaid in 1992, Champion with Lechlade Melissa in 1995, Champion with Colne Heiress in 1998 & 2001, Reserve with Cosford Chanelle in 2002, Reserve with Nantcol Sylphide in 2006, Reserve with Cosford Veronique in 2009 and most recently in 2019 winning the Show Pony Lead Rein Title with Chaseford Actor for the second year running.

Nantcol Sylphide was Supreme Mini Pony at the Royal International in 2004. Woodview Ianthe was another of our minis to claim the Championship at the RIHS in 2012.Whilst more recently Whiteleaze Secret Temptation took the Reserve spot at the RIHS in 2015 & 2017.

One of our most prolific winners in this section, who definitely deserves a mention is Newoak Balladier, he has won every single County Championship there is (some of them on multiple occasions) and has also been Champion at Horse of the Year Show in 2011 and Royal International in 2013. He has now even turned his hand to First Ridden and has qualified for RIHS & HOYS for the past 3 years.

Having won over 50 individuals classes across show ponies, hunter ponies, intermediates, part breds at RIHS & HOYS – we have just selected a few to showcase.

Colbeach Salaman HOYS Show Pony Champion in 2004, 1st in 2007

Yealand Angelina Champion HOYS Show Hunter Pony 2007 and Reserve Supreme

Finally we couldn’t leave out our first homebred Field Aston Royal Fanfare who narrowly missed out in 2016 when she was 2nd at HOYS and then took the 128 title in 2017

On 3 separate occasions Julie has produced the winner of the Pony of the Year accolade at Horse of the Year Show.

1986 Gaylord of Keston

 1996 Trelawn Playboy

2016 Litton Enterprise

However Julie also collected the Reserve Pony of the Year title on a further 3 occasions.

In 2002  Yealand Chapter took the Supreme Pony title at the Royal International.
