Caitlin brings her ‘kids’ down for some intensive training at the beginning of each year but the minute the Scottish lockdown was eased they decided to head down for a lockdown mini break. They had 2 days of training at the yard and then we headed to Kelsall Hill farm ride yesterday, which wasn’t without its mishaps.
Everything was going really well – Florrie and Sammy were definitely the stars of the show at the water jump giving leads to all the older girls. It was a close shave for Suzy though when Skippy almost got down in the water to roll !
Robyn and her new horse Dupes showed everyone how it should be done over the jumps, however we were impressed that Suzy gave them a go too!
To finish we headed to the gallops which had been such a success last time. Florrie set off first and about a third of the way up Sammy decided he was a show pony not a racehorse and literally did a 180 and tried to head for home, luckily though Florrie hung onto him and managed to get back on board and told Sammy he WAS a racehorse and finished the gallops. Next was Victoria and EB and we couldn’t believe it when literally the exact same thing happened, albeit its a bit further to fall from a 15.2! However credit to Victoria she got straight back on and finished. As you can imagine the rest in the holding circle were by this point a tad nervous, however it did teach them all a lesson that they had to keep their legs on the whole time. Everyone else got straight up with no mishaps. Everyone very happily headed back to the wagon and we loaded up to head home. However just as we were pulling out, the front suspension of our wagon went which meant we couldn’t drive it. Thanks to Kirsty who let us borrow hers we managed to get all the horses set off for home while Fiona waited for recovery. Luckily they managed to do a temporary fix which allowed her to get home in time to join everyone at the Long Barn BBQ night. Unfortunately the wagon needs parts ordered so we had to abandon our plans to go to Somerford Park Farm ride today and Caitlin and her girls have headed there on their own- lets hope its not as eventful as yesterday!
More pics of the girls just having fun…. (and well done the adults for walking the whole way!!)
